Fatal Decision

Writer's picture: Liberty Pole SpiritsLiberty Pole Spirits

In 1794, the Continental Congress was forced into dealing with a group of rebels who, in the minds of the congressmen, made the fatal decision to not pay the whiskey excise tax. The name of this cocktail honors the whiskey rebels whose decision helped shape America's history.

Ingredients

2 oz. Bourbon

2 oz. Cinnamon Rosemary Simple Syrup

3 dashes Angostura Bitters

Place large ice cube in rocks glass. On top of a wooden block, light oak chips and a sprig of rosemary until a small flame is produced. Set glass next to the the oak chips. Blow out flames and quickly cover with glass apothecary cloche.

While the glass is smoking, combine cocktail ingredients and stir over ice. Once the smoke has begun to dissipate, remove the glass dome and pour cocktail over ice. Garnish with a fresh sprig of rosemary.

Rosemary Cinnamon Simple Syrup

1 part water

1/2 part sugar

Cinnamon Sticks

Fresh Rosmeary

Combine water, sugar, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil and cook until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and add rosemary. Let sit overnight. In the morning, remove cinnamon and rosemary.
